Impacts from Livestock

Photo showing impacts of cattle grazing in the Sombrillo ACEC, New Mexico.

The differences between heavily grazed and lightly grazed land in the Sombrillo Area of Critical Environmental Concern (ACEC) are seen in this photograph.  The upper left corner shows more vegetation covering the fragile soils on the NE side of the fence.  The other side of the fence, where one cattle permittee grazes cattle, shows the impacts of cattle grazing.  The photo was taken approximately one month after all cattle were removed from the Sombrillo ACEC.
